Oh we do like to be beside the seaside...we do like to be beside the sea....beautiful Lorne on the Great Ocean Road

That's why we've lingered longer at Lorne!

We enjoyed more lovely coastal views, and passed under The Memorial Arch at Eastern View, as we rolled along the Great Ocean Road (GOR) towards Lorne.

Glorious morning and Lorne was sparkling! Had a spectacular view of the Great Ocean Road from Teddy's Lookout! The beautiful forests of the Otway National Park rise behind Lorne and we appreciated its beauty with a drive and a walk to the pretty Erskine Falls - it drops 30 metres into the fern lined valley of the Erskine River.

We walked the beaches, coastal paths and rock platforms this afternoon and enjoyed lovely Lorne. Particularly enjoyed the rock platform - haven't wandered around exploring  rock pools since I was a kid when Mum and Dad took us regularly to Shelley Beach! Brought back great memories!

Got a great spot in the Tourist Park right on the river estuary with the beach only a boardwalk away! Perfect!

Lorne was originally called Loutit Bay after Captain Loutit , who transported timber on a small ketch  "Apollo" and knew the coastline well. It was renamed in1870 after the Marquis of Lorne. Lorne overlooks lovely Loutit Bay. The Bay is the resting ground for many unfortunate ships who came to grief in this moody bay -  Shipwreck Plaque Walk around the bay shares the stories of these tragedies.

Now this is a good way to make sure you get a view!

The rock platform, which is in abundance around Lorne!
Accounts for so many shipwrecks in the area and along this coast!!
