Nice times in Naracoorte

Great town! It's renowned for its Scottish heritage and historic buildings. The CBD is immaculate! The lovely recreation Park and Nature Park which are side by side, are great recreation area for the community. It has a huge man made swimming lake in the same area as the Park's - half beach half pool - which obviously would be very popular with the community to cope with the summer heat! They also have a 5km walking trail that weaves from the centre of town along the Naracoorte Creek. Exercise and sport are obviously an important focus in the town as it boasts great playing fields near the town's High School.

While we were here we visited friends who live 20kms out of town on a lovely property where they have sheep, cattle, lucerne and oats. They toured us around the property - very interesting to see the modern methods of farming and how technology has impacted on farming.

How neat and tidy is this lovely town?  The parks and gardens and street-scaping created a lovely welcoming appeal.

Naracoorte's Founder

His story
A great mural reflecting the town's history and heritage

William Macintosh  built and managed this hotel, originally called The Merino Inn

Bought by the town's founder William MacIntosh, and named after a town near his birthplace in Scotland.

What a successful project!

The Swimming Lake is closed for the winter and it will be drained in the next few weeks.
The water is normally clear and clean
Whoever though you could go to the beach in inland naracoorte!?
What a great swimming and recreation area - couldn't believe the size!
Someone had a great vision and dreams big!
Visually it is a very pleasing addition to the Park and Nature Park as it looks like a big lake
More great murals on the walls of the Park's amenity blocks - these are mosaics featuring the local wildlife

Will be back next summer!
Lake, beach and pool all in one!

Great walking, running and biking trails through the Nature Park

The huge, stunning gums majestically adorn the Park

Part of the 5km trail that runs from town and  along the river goes through the Park and Nature Park

Masses of grass trees!
A big mob of kangaroos went bounding through the paddock as we approached the picnic spot

A popular spot for swimming, water sports and fishing
