Last day of our detour overseas to Kangaroo Island. Back to the mainland!

Bit of a struggle this morning but the sun and blue sky won and although a bit chilly, it was another beaut day of weather!

We skirted around the west end of the Island, across the middle to Parndana and then up to striking Stokes Bay on the north coast. How different the two coasts are!

Stokes Bay has a very beautiful secret! We came across some rocks at the end of the pebbly, sea grass strewn beach and foreshore and saw a sign "Beach", with an arrow pointing through the rocks. Peter disappeared through the gap and when he didn't reappear I followed - we crawled through a cave like path and came out on a most beautiful, pristine beach!!!! What a lovely surprise!!!

Lovely Stokes Bay - striking with all the different colours and textures

The surf was rolling in!
The mysterious rocks!

Pete disappears!

Follow that sign!
A quick look back at lovely Stokes Bay - where are we going??????
Through we go - follow that path! Quite exciting!

Keep following me!

Out we come on the other side......... to this......................
Magic!!!!

Back we go and into the rocks to return to Stokes Bay!
Love an adventure! :)

Prospect Hill - a huge sandhill - was our next stop on the way back to Penneshaw to catch the ferry. What a fabulous 360 view after climbing the 512 steps! - across to America River, Pelican Lagoon and the Aquatic Reserve in the inlet; up towards Dudley Conservation Park and Cape Willoughby; and out to Pennington Bay and D'Estrees Bay. A fabulous way to take our last look at this interesting and diverse Kangaroo Island!

At Penneshaw we squeezed onto the ferry - literally! and it was back to the mainland.

Arriving at Penneshaw - our ferry is just pulling in
Christmas Cove at Penneshaw

They squeezed us onto the ferry - we were holding our breathe!

Phew!!!!!
The places we visited, explored and adventured in, while on KI

From Cape Jervis we enjoyed a beautiful, scenic drive around the coast and through the vineyards from Willunga, bringing us to lovely McLarenvale. We saw more kangaroos grazing in the paddocks having their evening pick around Yankalilla and Myponga, than we did on Kangaroo Island!

Impressive coastal scenery
Looking back down the coast towards Marina St Vincent, Wirrina Cove, Second Valley and Rapid Head
The memorial to HMAS Hobart which was decommissioned in 2000 and sunk off the coast as a dive wreck

A silver sunset over the sea!

The driveway entrance to the tourist park in McLaren Vale where we are staying - going to be a good few days!!!!
Off to explore this lovely wine region tomorrow!
