Head for the Adelaide Hills!

We said a fond farewell to lovely Adelaide and headed for the Hills! - the Adelaide Hills! First stop was Mt Lofty for our last look at the city from above - great view!

Next stop was the quaint German town of Hahndorf where we wandered along the autumn clad tree lined street and enjoyed the European atmosphere. German food and beer was plentiful!

A picturesque drive through the countryside and the villages of Woodside, Mount Torrens, Birdwood, Williamstown and Lyndoch  brought us to Tanunda in the heart of the famous Barossa Valley.

HAHNDORF

"The town was settled by Lutheran migrants largely from in and around a small village then named "Kay" in Prussia, many of whom were aboard the Zebra. The town is named after Danish Captain Dirk Meinhertz Hahn, who was captain of theZebra."

"Due to the First World War in Europe, in 1917 the South Australian Government changed many German place names. The name Hahndorf was changed to Ambleside after the town in North West England, and this remained until the late 1930s, when it reverted to Hahndorf.[2] There are still references to the name Ambleside in and around the town today."
