Healesville Sanctuary - fantastic Zoos Victoria!

Today we had a fabulous day at the award winning Healesville Sanctuary! We were only going for a couple of hours but we spent the whole day there it was so interesting.  Definitely well worth a visit if you are in Victoria / Melbourne! All "up close and personal!"

It was not only great to see the Australian animals, birds and reptiles but to see the wonderful work Zoos Victoria is doing to help fight the extinction of some of our native fauna and that they are promoting and educating visitors about what we can do to help preserve and care for the environment so we don't lose our unique flora and fauna.

We met a lot of the keepers as we visited the enclosures - they were very informative and only too happy to answer any questions.

Lots of magic moments for us today ...................

What a character this male emu is - it is nesting time for them and this
very efficient dad is sitting on a speaker - he thinks it is an egg!!
Too sleepy to come out!

Meet Lucifer!!!

We were lucky - Lucifer was nowhere to be seen this morning - too busy sleeping.
We revisited his enclosure during the afternoon and were treated to Lucifer doing a quick
run and explore around his enclosure before returning to his bed for another nap.
