Triathlon and Crawfish! What a day!!!

Early morning start for Oschner 70.3 New Orleans! We picked Luke and Amanda up at 5am and headed out to the University of New Orleans. Disappointing news on arrival was that the swim was cancelled and the race was to be a Duathlon!- disappointing for the strong swimmers!  The Pro's went off on the bike at 30 secs intervals according to their race number for the bike leg and then they did the run, finishing at Jackson Square in the French Quarter. While Luke had a strong race today he was disappointed in the overall result, but all is looking good for IM Texas!  Would have been interesting to see how the results of today would have changed if it had of been a Triathlon!  BUT we were really pleased and happy that Barny- Paul Matthews -  took 3rd place today! A fellow Tweed Coaster (God's country!) and a K-Swiss athlete! Yeah Barn Dog!

We've had a fantastic few days here in New Orleans with Luke and Amanda and we are looking forward to seeing them again at IM Texas in four weeks time.

After the race we went back to Brent House and Luke and Amanda packed up ready for their early flight to Hawaii tomorrow. Another early morning start,  delivering them  to the airport at 5am! but worthwhile because they will get a full days training in in Hawaii!

Great after race get together with New Orleans' locals! Shaggy ( friend of Ben Harper of K-Swiss - go Benny!) - famous for his crawfish boil in New Orleans - put on an amazing crawfish boil at his home - so great to do what the locals do! Loved it! Great to talk with the locals about the Big Easy and especially about their experiences with hurricane Katrina. There is still  much evidence of the destruction it caused - empty, boarded up homes in effected areas which no one returned to, or couldn't return to. Some have spray paint crosses on them and a number - the number indicating the number of people that died in that house.Very sad!

After our amazing crawfish indulgence we dropped Luke and Amanda off at the French Quarter to party with their friends and we headed home for some much needed sleep!

All too much for Amanda - she catches a quick kip on the way home!

The Crawfish boil! -yum!!!.......
Poor things! - before the boil, alive and kicking!
Can't eat them if they are dead before they are cooked-
so,  if you get one with a straight tail don't touch - was dead before  it was boiled!
Local law!
A crawfish on alert!!!!
Attack!
Shaggy doing his thing!
Huge boiling pot - along with the Crawfish, in went his
potion of Cajun spices, corn cobs, whole potatoes, onions and
slices of orange!

The boil!
As Luke says - a lot of Crawfish! (thanks Luke, great pic)
