Big Drive from Las Cruces to the Hill Country

We stayed in Las Cruces, New Mexico last night - we'd planned on getting to El Paso in Texas near the Mexican Border after we left Tombstone, but we ran out of daylight. Had such a great time exploring Tombstone we overstayed the time we planned on visiting there - we just thought it was a town you drove through and had a look - but oh no! lots of interesting things to do and see there. Really well worth a visit! Bisbee - which we were going to visit as well but ran out of time - is another interesting mining town nearby - it is still a productive copper mining town today.

We were up bright and early this morning for a big day on the road - H10 - we were heading for the Texas Hill Country near Austin and San Antonio. We passed through El Paso - it is a huge city - very industrial and on the surface lacked a bit of appeal, but no doubt like other cities you scratch beneath the surface and you'll discover what an interesting place it is. Maybe next time we'll have time to explore there.

We made it to the Texas hill Country! but it took all day with only a few petrol and toilet stops. We keep the esky in the van well supplied with fruit and nibbles so we didn't go hungry! We just moseyed along and enjoyed the scenery!

So 1,000klms later we are camping in a KOA at Kerrville in the Hill Country. It is really quiet and peaceful and we were treated to a great sunset! Beautiful countryside!

Over the many miles through New Mexico and Texas to our destination we saw many changes in the landscape  and its vegetation and geological formations - it never ceases to amaze us!  One constant as you drive is that the mountains always keep you company - they are always visible (near of far) and provide some spectacular scenery. The roads are fantastic over here - makes the driving easy!
