Flying through fanastic Florida!

Monday 02/05/2011

Today was a driving day - beautiful fine sunny day, blue sky - perfect for rolling back across the Keys and heading north to Daytona Beach. And it didn't disappoint! The water of the Atlantic and the Gulf were greener than ever and the sun shimmered silver on the water. A perfect start to the day!

When we reached South Miami we stopped at Jiffy Lube to have the Turtle serviced. Great franchise - they have them all over the USA and your vehicle is in their computer system so you can go to on anywhere. They bring up the details of the vehicle in their system and know exactly what needs doing. And are they quick! They drive over a pit and then 4-5 people swarm over the car - each have their own job - and in no time you are back on the road!  Every 1500miles it is a free service! Why don't we have something like this in Australia!?

Driving through the beautiful Coconut Grove area south of Miami

Back on the road and the Turtle in full health we motored up I-95 and enjoyed the sights of the coast of Florida - Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Pierce, Vero Beach, Sebastian, Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, Titusville and  finally arriving at Daytona around 6pm. We thought if they were going to go ahead with the Space Shuttle launch that we would stop off at Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral and watch a bit of history, but it wasn't to be today! In the distance we thought we could see the shuttle on the launch pad towering above the surrounding flat land at we whipped by!

Florida is a really beautiful state with its great weather and beaches - we can see why retirees, holiday makers and water-loving people flock here to their fantastic coastal towns!
