A Sunday in Kona

Loving our daily dose of laps at the Kona Aquatic Centre. Adding more each day! Just got them in before the pool closed for "Sunday siesta"! Always shuts for an hour in the middle of the day on Sundays.

Particularly enjoyed this morning because we churned out our laps to the beat of Hawaiian drums and instruments blaring from the Community Hall and Basketball Stadium next door - there was some very energetic traditional dancing happening in accompaniment. Lovely to see that the children are learning the dance and music of their culture.

Our walk back to our unit took us via the Pier and the Ironman swim start and finish area. All the locals were in town enjoying the Bay and preparing for the afternoon Street Fair.
The swim start, the swim course in the picturesque Bay and run finish areas for the Ironman await!
Conditions are perfect!

Kailu-Kona watches on and the volcano looms behind.

The water is  incredible at the moment - so clear and and a beautiful turquoise in colour
- lots of people out swimming and snorkelling.
Won't be long before this area is swarming with triathletes training on the swim course in the bay.
Love the name of the Fishing Charter boat moored at the Pier
Looking from the Pier to the lovely swimming and beach area of the Ironman host Hotel, the King Kam,
as it is affectionately known.
How clear  and green is the water!

The beach area will be crowded with successful Ironman finishers in a few weeks time
Enjoying a walk along the seawall -  these people are living dangerously!
Oops! Just missed them!
The afternoon Street Fair was fantastic with about 50 or more stalls lining the length of Alii Drive from the Pier to the middle of town, laden with all sorts of art, craft, locally produced products and food to enjoy. Bands, musicians and dancers entertained the crowds browsing the fair.
Stroll through the Fair with us..........................

Ready for the evening entertainment

The Atlantis Submarine were offering Fair goers a look below - for a discount!

Pete enjoying his Kettle Corn

Pure fruit pops - this one was delicious!

And so the sun goes down on a great Sunday in Kona, as well as our most enjoyable stay in town. Mahalo.

Became a little overcast and drizzly early evening, which quietened the sunset, but as usual it still managed to be beautiful!

We move to our condo out of town next week and look forward to some serious relaxing before the triathletes burst on the scene training and preparing for this years World Championship Ironman.
