Swimming, Kona Coffee, Donkey Balls and Ziggy!

Pete enjoyed swimming the first part of the Ironman swim course at the Pier this afternoon. Unfortunately no dolphins, turtles or mantas to keep him company, but quite a few colourful fish! He appreciated experiencing the course from the athletes perspective - a beautiful swim but the constant swell provides a bit of "rock and roll"!

Ziggy the Golden Retriever was also enjoying a swim!
"Too much dog paddling! I need a rest!"
Ziggy loving the frolic!
A coffee  recovery drink was in order and we enjoyed some new Kona Coffee taste sensations at the quirky world famous Keoki's Donkey Balls. Yum - delicious gourmet chocolates made here on the Big Island, and great Kona coffee straight from the farm!

Very quirky!

It's all about "cherries" and "squishes" to get great Kona coffee!
The Grades!
Some of the chilled espresso indulgences!
 The "Nutsy Nutso" was yum!
Lot's of delectable balls!
It was fun wandering around looking at the varieties!
These sound good!

Love the sign displayed around the shop :)

Next stop was the Kona Inn Restaurant, centrepiece of the historic Kona Inn perfectly nestled on the shores of the Bay with spectacular views.

The historic Kona Inn viewed from the Pier - it blends perfectly with the environment!
The Kona Inn Restaurant has a fantastic view of the Bay and surrounds.
A lovely foyer displays the fishing feats in the area .
The Inn was instrumental in developing the Kona Coast as one of the world's greatest fishing areas
as it enticed marlin fishermen from around the world.

Wow! I'm tired just thinking about the effort required to reel it in!

Another biggy!

Gosh! That's a huge days effort!

Not quite as much effort and pain as the 8 - 17 hours of swimming, biking and running that is going to happen in Kona on October 13th! Kona has started to buzz and the signs are popping up around town as more athletes arrive by the day!!! The excitement is building..........
A nice thought for the athletes - sun screen left on the gear stand at the Pier for
them to use before they do a training swim on the course.
An all important carbo- loading invitation from the fabulous Pancho Lefty's Mexican Restaurant.
Our favourite dining spot after the race - great food and great for spectating as the runners approach the finish shute!

Today's Magic Moment......

Ziggy the Golden Retriever displaying his enjoyment and happiness about
frolicking and swimming with his best mate - a big smile!
