A "fishy" day at Kahalu'u Bay!, then partying!

The day after!

Sunday, recovery day for a lot of stiff, sore athletes after their epic races yesterday! AND for some very tired and sunburnt spectators!

After farewelling our weekend guests, Phil McGain and daughter Madi, we hopped on our bikes and headed for Kahalu'u Bay - Turtle Beach, for some relaxing on the beach and snorkelling enjoyment.

Phil and Madi.
Came over from Maui for the weekend to enjoy the Ironman event
Great people, great house-guests!
We love spending time at Turtle Beach - the water is cooling and crystal clear , and the snorkelling is fantastic -  lots of colourful fish, beautiful coral and the amazing turtles! The turtles come into the Bay to feed off the algae on the rocks around the shore. A fantastic thrill to be swimming along with a turtle swimming beside you!

Great information and video presentation about the Bay and its inhabitants

A great poster : "Corals grow by the inch and die by the foot - your foot!"

Algae munching!

Hi!

Enjoying the Bay!

Snorkelling delight....the fish we saw in "the rainforest of the sea".......................fascinating and entertaining!

Amazing markings!

My favourite!
As the sunlight shafts through the crystal clear water, the shades of blues and purples
of the parrotfish are stunning.

Sunday night is the Presentation Banquet for all the deserving place getters, followed by the after parties. We always enjoy our evening at Huggo's on the Rocks - a great conclusion to a mighty event! - music, food and lots of conversation with the world wide triathlon family!

Another great Ironman event comes to a close in Kona, but the tales of this challenging 2012 race will live on!

  1. Congratulations to your son. You must be so proud of his accomplishments. Looks like you enjoyed the rest of your time on the Big Island. Can't wait to see where the next adventure takes you. It was a pleasure meeting both of you :)

  2. Thank you! We are very proud of him. His day started out fantastically but the back end of the race he wasn't happy with. He'll be back for another go next year! Start the trek back to Australia today. Have loved the Big Island! A pleasure meeting you both as well. Take care.:)
