Shepparton

Nice day in Shepparton - we enjoyed a walk around the Victoria Park Lake - glorious weather and lots of Aussie birdsong coming from the mighty red gums lining the Goulburn River on the west side of the lake - the screech of  the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, the warble of the Magpies, and the laughing of the Kookaburra's accompanied us on our walk.

From there we walked through the CBD and the central Mall  - very quiet, not a lot of people out shopping! but a lovely area.

We enjoyed a nice relaxing arvy! - a good read and nana nap! :)

Victoria Park and Lake is a work in progress! and is a great town asset, not only for its beauty but
the area offers lots of sport and recreation facilities.
The Lake was actually built in the depression - 1929! and the project continues to grow!

Great walking/cycling path in the park which circumnavigates the lake
A huge Aquatic Centre with indoor and outdoor pools flanks the lake.
A school swimming carnival was in full swing in the outdoor pool - had to laugh, when they
wanted the kids attention or make an announcement they blew an air raid siren which I'm
sure could be heard right around town! lol
A fun water park for the kids
Quite an expanse of water for a man made lake!
Lovely gardens and water vegetation.......
.........and colourful, modern water sculptures

A massive River Red Gum forest stands impressively on the west side of the park and shelters a
well used picnic area.
Platypus territory! but alas we didn't spy any!! Still asleep!!!

A suspension bridge crosses the Goulburn River on the walking/cycling trail
Typical Aussie inland river - muddy and lined with River Red Gums
Noisy Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's joined us on our walk!

Fish havens amongst the rushes around the shore of the lake
The mighty Aussie River Red Gums
Great facilities for fishing!
A triathlete takes to the lake for some swim training in open water
A lakeside beach to launch your kayak
More platforms to fish from
The proud and graceful Black Swans glided by!

More Mooving Art around town!
A pretty little lady! :)

This pair of mooies were in the Tourist Information Centre which is is on the shores of the lake

Lovely picnic areas and seating jutting out over the lake

The very formal "The Carrington" Best Western Motel overlooks  the park and lake

An impressive home opposite the park and lake
Lots of ducks enjoying the beautiful lake with the Aquatic centre in the background
Walking into town..........

The old butter factory (1894) now houses shops - good they preserved the historical facade!
Shepparton's tree lined Mall
Nice parks along the Mall

No wonder we get good internet and phone reception here!!!
The Telstra Tower stands proud right in the middle of town!

Entertainment area in the centre of the Mall
Lovely colonial pub
Leafy vine arbours in the Mall for shoppers to enjoy a bit of shade and a coffee
There's that tower again! Visible from everywhere!!!
Lots of fresh fruit stalls around the outskirts of town - straight from the orchards!
We got great peaches, pears and nectarines from Boris's -
nothing like fruit freshly picked and hasn't been in cold storage!
Pete enjoyed his healthy gourmet lunch prepared in the MH Kitchen!

Thai Red Curry Tuna Salad

On with our road trip adventure to see more of Victoria! Going to head to Bendigo and then the beautiful Grampians.
