Bye to the coast for now, up into the clouds and who sits where five miles from .........?

We thoroughly enjoyed our road trip today.
From Huskisson (we’ll be back to this bit of paradise!!-its a gem! ) we went back to Nowra and over to the Hume Highway through the amazing Kangaroo Valley - how pretty is this Garden of Eden!!!
Out of Nowra we quickly left the coastal plain and climbed up the mountain range through a spectacular rainforest to the top of the plateau and Cambewarra Lookout. The beautiful Shoalhaven area spread in all it’s glory before us - what an amazing view! The violent thunderstorm the previous night had cleared the air and we could see for miles! - 145klms  to be exact!
We continued through the rainforest and came out into the emerald green Kangaroo Valley. The Village is a step back in time with its quaint shops and buildings - worth a wander!
There were more great views as we climbed out of the valley and onto the plateau heading for Moss Vale and the Hume Highway. Spectacular Fitzroy Falls, with its 81metre drop of gushing, pounding water, put on a great display and the walk through the bush to the Falls was a welcome stretch for the legs!
The whole area is littered with B &B’s, wineries, art and craft shops, horse studs, beef properties and lush farmland.  Lovely Moss Vale is a “House and Garden” heaven! - so refreshingly different with its “English’ trees, shrubs and plants.
After our morning of “sensory delight” we stopped for fuel at the famous Big Merino, Goulburn and lunched at Trapper’s Bakery  -  a great eats stop if you are traveling this part of the Hume Highway!  Great food and lots of character! Bit of a story goes with it as well!
Being in “merino country” we saw lots of sheep!  ( or were we in new Zealand! :)  )
On our way to Albury/Wodonga, our stop for the night, what did we see 5 miles from Gundagai?.........and why is Holbrook an interesting little town?

Heading out of the Tourist Park at Huskisson for our big day of road tripping -
Albury is our destination tonight

Cambewarra Mountain looms ahead as we motor north west out of Nowra

A submarine 100klms inland? Think it's lost!
Why is it there?.......
To honor Lt. Holbrook the town's namesake, the Holbrook council acquired a portion of the hull of HMAS Otway, a decommissioned Oberon class submarine when it was decommissioned by the Royal Australian Navy in 1995.
Aussie's love their pubs - so many old ones with great character and architecture
Lovely historic buildings line the man street of Holbrook.

The town was originally called Ten Mile Creek and the first buildings erected in 1836.

Another bit of interesting trivia......

After the city of Albury / Wodonga was bypassed in March 2007, Holbrook became famous not only for a submarine - But also having the only set of traffic lights between Sydneyand Melbourne, which is a pedestrian crossing.
