The Basin

The walk from Kelly's Beach, through the heart of Bargara to Neilson Park Beach

The volcanic basalt rock, spewed from The Hummock millions of years ago, litters the shoreline
The Hummock raises its head and watches over its fertile fields and basalt strewn coastline

Bargara Beach
The path and decking meander their way through the lovely foreshore parkland  on The Esplanade

What a great place to hold a fun run!
Loved this section of the walk - the interpretive trail was excellent - informative and educational

An interesting display of photos covering the history of the park

Soft and feathery! - the textures of Nature

Beautiful grasses

It was so lovely walking along this beautiful secluded beach - Mon Repos
Mon Repos is closed to the public in turtle nesting season November-March

Catching a quiet surf
What a position and view this home has!
Pete with his hiking pole - decided to pick it up after an old fellow beach-combing on Mon Repos Beach
kindly warned us about the lurking Taipans and Eastern Brown snakes! :)
Pete assured me that they would all be sleeping because it was winter :)
The She- Oaks love it along the pathway - they whisper to you! :)
Distance markers along the pathway let you know the number of steps you've taken :)
Lots and lots of steps!
Jewelled ocean, rock pools and drying wings
Pete's setting the pace!  He's "stepping" it out!
The Egrets fossick in the reeds
Grazing peacefully and has an ocean view!
Approaching Burnett Heads and the end of the Turtle Trail - a lovely view along the coastline
Lots of people passed us enjoying a cycle along the pathway - the tandems were popular!

We reached the end of the Turtle Trail, Burnett Heads - what a wonderful section of the Coastal Pathway!
On we go to the river mouth and the Lighthouses - the new and old!
Homes in Burnett Heads still bare the scars of the cyclonic weather which hit a few months ago  -
many are roofless!
Burnett Heads in sight!
Oaks Beach - another lovely beach along the Coastal  Pathway
The yacht heads out of the river for a sail on the silver sea - what a perfect day for it!
People enjoy a bit of relaxing and a fish
Beach strolling!

The mouth of the Burnett River

Good that the coastal area has been retained for community recreation
Trekking along the long breakwall :)
A lovely quiet and secluded beach with another man made pool near the mouth of the Burnett River
Fishing fun!
Burnett Heads Marina
The long breakwall at the entrance of the Burnett River creates a safe harbour area
River mouth mangroves

About face and we return along the breakwall to begin the journey home - the dog's still fishing! :)

Very peaceful walking through the She-Oaks in the Mon Repos Conservation Park
One of the tracks to Mon Repos Beach - turtles nest from November to March
The Information Centre is well worth a visit - even if it isn't turtle nesting / hatching time.

Very shapely!
A Blue Crane enjoying a stroll
A wild bees nest on the She Oak
A handsome fellow sharing the path
Nearing home........The seabirds have come in to roost on the rocks for the night.......
.........the tide has come in at the Basin........
.........think Pete just dragged himself through the sand.......
Made it!  25kms!

What a great day and hike! Can recommend it!

Would love to do it on a bike..........next time!

There are a number of Pathways along the Coral Coast funded by the Bundaberg Council,  Queensland Health, Swap It Don't Stop It and 10,000 Steps, initiatives dedicated "to encouraging locals and visitors to get active along our beautiful coastal pathways and discover out vibrant community spirit".  It works!
We enjoyed the Burnett Heads - Bargara Pathway so much, we are looking forward to experiencing the Innes Park to Coral Cove Pathway and the Elliot Heads Pathway - new places to explore!
