How's Houston? - mirror city!

Sunday 22/05/2011 - Monday 23/05/2011

Yesterday - Sunday- we had a rest day and caught up on the washing (got clothes to wear again!), so nothing earth moving to report. Sorry I'm wrong, we did go out for a lovely dinner in the evening with great company! Luke, Amanda, Hillary Biscay, Naomi Ferguson (of BlueSeventy) Peter and I  enjoyed the delicious delights that Uni Sushi in Market Square had to offer. Great evening!

Today - Monday - Amanda headed off early to get her flight to Brazil, via Miami - we'll be barracking for her this weekend in IM Brazil (watch for her on IMLive!) She's fighting fit and so motivated she'll fly around the course - PB coming up! She even trained early, early this morning before heading off to the airport! - dedication and focus!

Luke, Peter and I spent the day together. Nice quality time! We loaded up The Turtle with Luke and Amanda's gear they don't need anymore - no more camping! - it is now a storage unit headed for Bend!
Then it was a run and swim session for Luke before we had lunch at the fantastic Hubbell and Hudson Kitchen (I'm bringing it home with us!) at The Woodlands.

Our adventure after that was a bit disappointing - we headed into downtown Houston, but besides the interesting architecture it really had no other appeal. It was clean, quiet and had some small well kept parks and nice street-scaped flower gardens. The Museum's add some interest to the city and if you are a Museum buff they are all free every Thursday.  Houston Space Centre is further down the road on the
I-45 and woud be worth a look - next trip to the USA for us! So, even though it is a low key city, as far as tourists go, it was good to see what it was like. Did love the mirror buildings! Certainly a contrast to its northern leafy suburb, The Woodlands!

Yummy very healthy lunch at Hubbell and Hudson Kitchen

That's our bed underneath Luke and Amanda's gear going back to Bend! lol
A  little bit of it went on the plane with Luke.
City scape of downtown Houston
I did like the glass buildings that mirrored the sky and the other buildings around it!
Spot them in the pics!

The old and the new

Mountain Maid Baseball Stadium

The Houston Astro's home ground
An interesting sculpture on the sidewalk
I made it even more interesting by trying to shoot the pic out the window as we drove by!
Red, white and blue to match the Convention centre across the road!
The glass red, white and blue Convention Centre that looked like a huge ship / cruise-liner

The Metro tram that ran up and down Main Street -
very slick and streamlined!

Luke and Amanda will meet up again in 10 days time in Sardinia to run their Triathlon camp - the same camp that was really successful last year, and which they thoroughly enjoyed. While Amanda is adventuring and battling it out in IM Brazil, Luke is staying with an Italian friend and checking out some tri camp venues in Tuscany and about, while doing his training for his next event.
Resting up before heading to the airport
Off to Europe - London then onto Pisa
