We even have a paddock full of antelope behind us here in the Fredericksburg KOA where we are camping tonight. Pecans, peaches and wineries are the other big things in the area.
This morning we looked around Kerrsville and this afternoon we explored Fredericksburg and surrounds - two of the early western frontier settlements of the mid 19th century.
Fredericksburg was established by German immigrants and many of their descendants still live and operate businesses here today. The German influence is very evident in the town with its architecture and cuisine. We had a delicious German meal at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company this evening - pork schnitzel, warm German potato salad and sauerkraut.
As the plaque says in town:
"Settling Fredericksburg Texas can be credited to one man whose vision, tenacity and courage made it possible. That man was John Meusebach who founded Fredericksburg and opened up the Texas frontier to settlement."
