We drove through the lovely districts of St Charles and Uptown and then went for a stroll around the Garden District with all its beautiful homes and gardens. It is where the Americans first settled in New Orleans.
Enjoy a stroll with us through this lovely area of New Orleans..............
The Layfette Cemetery. Majority buried here died of Yellow Fever. All crypts are above ground because the land is below sea level. |
Really nice!
We hit the French Quarter (yet again - bit like a magnet in this city!) early evening and wandered around enjoying the never ending parade of "interesting" people and antics, and soaking up the party mood and atmosphere. We called in at Pat O'Brians (last time we went there was with Sue and Gerry in 1977 - it hasn't changed! ) and had the famous Hurricane (still have our Hurricane glass at home that we acquired in 1977!) and a Cyclone, and ate some southern fare - Gumbo, Alligator Bites and O'Brians Chicken Wings done in a Bloody Mary sauce. Delicious!
We ended the evening and our fantastic time in The Big Easy with a visit to Preservation Hall and enjoyed the jazz of The St Peter's St Jazz Band. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos of the band. Their jazz was fantastic! - worth lining up for an hour to get in. Preservation Hall was the original place where all the jazz players began their careers, so it is famous as the home of jazz.
Goodbye Big Easy, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here! History, paddlewheelers and paddlesteamers,
amazing cuisine, jazz, beautiful homes and gardens...................and the FRENCH QUARTER!
So here are some glimpses of New Orleans "favourite" area - the quirky, fun loving French Quarter................. it has so much character............
