Had a great day with Luke and Amanda today. Went with them to check out race venue, then they did their swim session in the University of New Orleans' pool. They went for a ride afterwards but had to abandon it because the wind was so strong! - lots of tornados reported today through deep south mid USA (over 80), so guess the windy weather could have been linked to that severe weather front. Hope it has all calmed down by Sunday!
After doing some supplies shopping we headed into downtown and lunched at the Riverwalk overlooking the Mississippi. Some more interesting Creole/ Cajun food was sampled!!! Crawfish, Cracklin Chicken and Po Boy.
Race registration was conveniently across the road at the Hilton so Luke was able to complete that before we headed back to Brent House Hotel (where Luke and Amanda are staying) so they could get their run in before we went to dinner. On the way back we passed through the garden district of New Orleans which was just gorgeous! Amazing homes and architecture! - certainly salubrious! (word of the day!)
Had a great evening out in the French Quarter where we dined with Chris and Linsey Corbin at Desire - a great Oyster Bar. Our meal was scrumptious!- oysters, BBQ Shrimp and Creole Shrimp.....yum! and we really revelled in the fun and partying that was happening in Bourbon Street -it certainly "rocks"or should I say"jazzes" of an evening - great, great atmosphere! We indulged in some frozen yoghurt dessert from a great little place called "Pinkberry"on Canal Blvd before we headed home. The athletes must get their rest and "race" sleep!

The beautiful atrium at Brent House Hotel where Luke and Amanda
are staying. The hotel is part of a big hospital - Ochsner - the hospital being
the major sponsor of the 70.3 race here in New Orleans this weekend. |
