Woke this morning to the lovely view over glassy Lake Hume. Can't believe only us and another nomad had this idyllic spot to ourselves! The Wymah Valley, as we drove out to meet the Olympic Highway, was picture perfect basking in the morning sunshine! We knew it was going to be another great day of road tripping! And it was!
The Olympic Highway whisked us into the beautiful farming region of the Riverina with its spectacular prime farming and grazing land. Sheep, cattle, wheat and oats surrounded us! Saw companion grazing today - Llama's grazing with the ewes and their lambs - the Lamas protect the lambs from foxes! - they are very aggressive towards foxes apparently.
The highway guided us through many lovely towns and villages, all with a claim to fame! :)
Culcairn - birthplace of Equestrian Olympian Andrew Hoy; Henty - home of the Header; Yerong Creek - home of the Vintage Rally; The Rock - Lion of the Plains; Wagga Wagga - NSW Largest Inland City; Junee - birthplace of Ray "Rabbit" Warren; and Cootamundra - birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman. Instead of continuing to Young on the Olympic we decided to take a trip down memory lane for Pete and detoured to Boorowa where he lived for 3 years during his first teaching post. This nostalgic side trip took us through Harden - Home of the First Australian Lighthorse and on into Boorowa - Home of the Best Merino Sheep. After spending a few hours revisiting Peter's haunts around the "updated" Boorowa, we wended our way to Cowra - home to the Australian replica on the UN's World Peace Bell, our destination for the day.
Liked the sign as you left a town - "Thanks for visiting, keep safe, keep smiling"

BOOROWA
Peter was amazed at the transformation Boorowa has undergone! He couldn't believe his eyes when we drove into the town!
In 2007 the town underwent a huge make over - highlighting its history, preening its parks and gardens, streetscaping the town centre, and creating the parrot symbol has made a huge difference and tourism has boomed in this lovely little country town since its reinvention! The rolling hills, fertile farmland and sheep dotted paddocks surrounding the town are stunning.
