Mornington Peninsula - Portsea and the Point Nepean National Park; Coffee and Mussels

It was all about the past and the present today. We enjoyed a great 6 km hike in the Point Nepean National Park, taking in the stunning coastal landscapes as well appreciating the rich history of the area.

The park has been home to the Boonwurrung people; base for the quarantine of people arriving in Victoria; an important defence point for the colony; and a military training ground.

Join us on our journey on the Walter Pisterman Heritage walk...........
Scroll through and enjoy the stunning scenery on the walk, and if you don't mind a bit of history it's there to.

Our walk began at Observatory Point and along Coles Track which took us through the bush up to the top of Cheviot Hill and onto the roadway leading to Point Nepean.

Beautiful day for a walk but the air was a little brisk!

Climbing through the bush from The Bend to Cheviot Hill, named after the SS Cheviot which was shipwrecked off the headland during a terrible gale in 1887

Loved our journey through Point Nepean and rewarded ourselves with some great coffee at Claypots Southern Star at Portsea. After imbibing in the delectable complimentary mussels we decided to returned in the evening to Portsea for pre-dinner drinks at the historic Portsea Hotel followed by a delicious seafood dinner at Claypots.
