Shuttling to the Sheraton, Keauhou

The iconic bright green Keauhou-Kona shuttle is a familiar daily sight chugging along Alii Drive, dropping off and picking up locals and tourists along its popular track from Kona to Keauhou return. Great value, whether journeying to a particular point or just sightseeing - $2 a ride!

We have watched and admired this pretty shuttle but had never been aboard - so today was the day!!
We boarded at the Pier in Kona and alighted at the Sheraton in Keauhou. Great morning exploring and sightseeing!

Hop aboard................

Tiny St Peter's Church next to Kahaluu Beach Park

Lovely Kahaluu Beach Park, or Turtle Beach as it is fondly known!

The best place for snorkelling!!!! and seeing the turtles!!!
Right next door to The Outrigger at Keauhou.

One of my favourite activities in Kona - love snorkelling here!
Remains of an ancient community and temple in the grounds of The Outrigger at Keauhou,
part of the areas Heritage Corridor

As you wander around Keauhou, its resorts and surrounds, there are many archeological sites
linked to the ancient Hawaiians.
They enjoyed living in this area as it enjoyed rain off the mountain and had easy access to the sea

Very nice area to sit, relax, chat, dine or enjoy a sunset cocktail!

AND VIEW THE MANTA RAYS!

This area is floodlit at night for the spectacular viewing of the Manta Rays
which abound in these waters

There is a stunning walk along the lava shores and through the beautiful grounds and gardens

A wonderful time! 2nd Anniversary coming up!

All this area surrounding the Bay was a popular part of the Hawaiian royalty's domain

The Bay's  Marina flanked by the Golf Course
Keauhou Bay Marina is a popular area for water fun - swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing.....

Great beach volleyball courts line up on the shore of the Bay

Looking from the marina to the Sheraton on the point at the entrance to the Bay

The cliffs and the caves along the shoreline behind the Marina hold many ancient "royal stories"

Amazing!!!

The Holua Slide can be viewed from the entrance ramp at the Sheraton and across the road from the entrance to the Kona Country Golf Club

Beautiful golf course!
Mountainside to the sea!!! Challenging!!! and you need a buggy - its big!!!!

Great program - so many feral cats on the island,

  1. That was a lovely guide around the island. Is it only the yellow hibiscus that is the national flower and why is it scarce? Do you realise how many pictures of empty chairs you have taken? Where are all the people or is it not tourist time? You could do a survey to find out why it is so?hahaah I particularly like the shot of your toenails the best way to enjoy life.....

  2. This is the lovely area 5 miles south of Kona along Alii Drive called Keauhou. This is where the royal Hawaiians enjoyed living.
Interesting question about the yellow hibiscus re being the national flower. It is endangered in its natural habitat apparently. Goggle has some interesting articles about the national hibiscus.
Empty chairs? lol People generally don't like their pic taken lol I like people to imagine they are sitting in them!? lol! There are a lot of people here but still room for more!!! :))))))
